„In the middle of the 1980s, when Margret Eicher started to work on her CopyCollages, she drew a lot of inspiration from the ideas of the post-structuralist French philosophy – above all from Michel Foucaultʼs discourse analyses (on the relationship between knowledge and power, supervision and punishment). Already her large-format CopyCollages, which can often also be walked upon, interlinked photographic image materials, typographic elements and ornamental borders from a whole range of sources – mass media, art and architectural history, politics, advertising, cinema and body culture – to form rhythmic as well as repetitive structures without a centre or a periphery, thus, theoretically being able to endlessly expand. In formal terms, these structures, each relating to certain spatial prerequisites, maintain the equivalence of all of their parts by means of subordination under an overarching form idea. The permanent repetition of the different individual elements also relates them to their specific meaning. The central concept, which serves as the basis for this design, is the concept of the ornament.“
